Monumentality does not belong solely to the great canopies. By lowering the perspective to ground level, alocasias and monsteras rise up like true architectural structures in the dark of the understory. Ailton Krenak states that modernity creates an artificial separation between nature and humanity. Thus, we seek, in vain, to imprison it in bottles and terrariums, gardens and parks, without realizing that we are embedded within a much larger structure created by plants.
