What do we perceive when we pause to See?

Artist Statement

Leandro D Andrade is an artist from São Paulo/Brazil

We live in haste, surrounded by an urgency that draws us away from what is essential. My work investigates what we find when we slow down and pause to look. In this exercise of attention, green emerges from the darkness like a supernatural, almost magical force, overshadowing the scenery and embracing different forms of life. For this reason, in many of my works, I use black paper as a background. Darkness, in this context, represents our inattention. Soft pastel, on the other hand, a fragile and delicate medium, reveals through colors the life that glows in the dark.

Exchange - Soft Pastel on Paper

Curatorial text

Leandro D. Andrade's recent work unfolds from a careful observation of the natural world and the small things we usually overlook. His landscapes speak of nature, memory, imagination, and resistance. Every color, every nuance of light and shadow reveals the artist's interest in what tends to go unnoticed: the fragment, the detail…
